Nimble thimble hunters auction bonanza

Nimble collectors will be out in droves this week for their chance to pick up one of the more unusual antique thimbles among a collection of 400 on offer at Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday September 18 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The thimbles come in all shapes and sizes and are made of different materials.
Some are from sterling silver, some with jewelled tops, others made of enamel, glass, Bakelite or plastic.
Leading porcelain manufacturers such as Wedgwood and Spode feature prominently in the collection and many of the thimbles carry people’s faces or pictures of animals, collector society emblems or royalty themes.
There are even novelty thimbles and one of which is only five millimetres high.
The thimbles will be offered in lots of 20 to 50.
The auction also contains a good selection of antique and reproduction French furniture including an armoire, leather top ormolu mounted desk, double bed dining table with parquetry top.
