This might be an online warehouse auction but Melbourne auctioneer Phil Caldwell has some unbelievable items up for grabs including a rare matching pair of George Owen vases and a pair of Sevres and enamel exhibition cabinet vases for which most collectors would give their eye teeth.
The auction begins at 11am on Sunday April 24 at 239 Wickham Road, Moorabbin and, for those who miss out on the Owen creations, there also is a stunning Charles Baldwyn seagull vase and a rare Paul Millet (1870-1950) Sevres vase to contend with amongst numerous other porcelain pieces.
Traditional and modern Australian and international artworks are another drawcard with such stalwarts as Dutch-born and later Australian artist Jan Hendrik Scheltema (1861-1941) featuring with a gallery-size work alongside the likes of Hugh Sawrey, Sidney Nolan, David Bromley, Howard Arkley, Pro Hart, Louis Buvelot, Ernest Buckmaster and John Cobby.
Auction watches and jewellery are always popular and this sale is no exception with Bvlgari and Tag Heuer to the fore along with a 22-carat gold heavy necklace and precious stone rings such as a 5.5-carat emerald and diamond and a diamond and sapphire creation that would be the envy of many jewellery lovers.
A cut and enamel Bohemian glass vase is a must see among the fabulous crystal and glass on offer that also includes a pair of Murano grape and leaf decorated table lamps, Galle cameo glass and a Baccarat crystal clock.
Buyers will be impressed by the rare Eastern jade and bronze collection that includes intricate carved spinach green and mutton fat pieces. A rare Chinese cabinet and fine Chinese porcelain such as large Quan Yin and Imari vases are among other collectable items.
Antiquities always attract strong interest and an ancient Greco-Roman marble satyr head should be no exception along with 550BC Egyptian wooden mask, the 4th century BC painted terracotta oenochoe and the 2nd century BC Apulian.
Other auction items of interest include an exquisite collection of Russian silver and enamel pieces.
