Melbourne-based Christian McCann Auctions is hoping to attract plenty of attention to its second online auction for the year with a magnificent collection of quality French and English antique furniture, beautiful clocks and collectable Australian and European art among the 230 lots.
The auction, from 6pm Tuesday April 28, will be held at 7 Harper Street, Abbotsford and, with coronavirus pandemic restrictions still in place, viewing is only online, with collection of goods after the sale by appointment.
The auction will have plenty offer first time buyers and collectors alike with lot 1, a 19th century bresche Violette salon timepiece featuring a bronze figure of Harlequin, typical of the quality on offer.
Lots 2 and 3 are equally appealing – the first a 19th century lidded vase and the second a pair of early 19th century two handled vases – all by Sevres.
This auction gives porcelain collectors a marvellous opportunity to acquire quality pieces with Sevres and other porcelain makers, including Japanese Satsuma, in abundance.
A 19th century French Carrara marble clock with ormolu maiden and bird figures (lot 15) is another strong attraction, while a detailed 19th century French bronze figure group by J. Albinet (lot 14) is bound to excite online viewers.
Amongst the art on offer is a Pro Hart’s Miners loading a cart (lot 28) and David Boyd’s Stroll to the top of the waterfall (lot 29) – good examples of their works appearing in the sale.
Furniture pieces are equally fine and include a 19th century French serpentine shaped single door salon cabinet (lot 32) and 19th century French kingwood casket with painted Sevres panels (lot 36).
Japanese antique carved ivory, like lot 89 showing a fisherman, is another drawcard while a French hand painted miniature in ormolu and bead frame (lot 129) should attract plenty of attention.
