Many Australian TV followers will remember Gavan Disney as executive producer and the brains behind the creation of Channel 9’s long running variety show Hey Hey Its Saturday hosted by Daryl Sommers.

He also was the co-creator of Network Ten’s lifestyle program Healthy, Wealthy and Wise and veteran TV personality Bert Newton claims Disney resurrected his career when he offered him the host spot on Good Morning Australia.

Disney died in November last year aged 69 after a long illness and Christian McCann Auctions has been asked to auction the contents of his estate from midday Sunday February 17 on site at 3 Huntingfield Road, Toorak.

One of the attractions, particularly for classic car collectors, is the two-door Mercedes Benz SE sedan – a gift from Channel 9 boss at the time, Kerry Packer.

Another drawcard is rare 19th century sterling silver by English makers such as the iconic Paul Storr, England’s most celebrated silversmith who lived from 1770 to 1844 in London  and produced much of the silver purchased by King George III and King George IV.

Art collectors will be impressed with the Australian art on offer including a major gallery size Arthur Boyd, pencil sketch by Tom Roberts, rare Sam Fullbrook work and Ethel Carrick Fox still life.

Other artists to feature include Taylor Ghee, Clifton Pugh, Charles Rowbottham, Rubery Bennett, Pro Hart, David Boyd, Ernest Buckmaster and John Glover.

Furniture buffs have a choice of 18th and 19th century French and English pieces from Graham Geddes Antiques including boulle, George III library and quality decorator furniture.

Unusual is the wardrobe of designer clothes and shoes and original Louis Viton designer luggage.

There also is superb array of French and English antique clocks including a George III longcase and French salon clocks and clock sets – along with garden statuary, urns and outdoor tables.
