Fascinating collectables at quarterly auction

Mossgreen Quarterly Collectors Auction Series always throws up an interesting array of collectables and this latest effort – over two days from 10am Monday September 21 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale – is no exception.

While porcelain, glassware and sculpture feature prominently, the auction also is notable for rather unusual antique items.

Of particular note is an Austrian (Franz Bergman manner) cold painted bronze of a camel led by an attendant and ridden by a Bedouin playing drums and a stoneware two-headed sculpture by Alexander Leckie.

A pair of Mary Gregory cranberry glass vases with covers is another attraction, while a 1930s WMF glass and chrome table lamp and shade stamped “WMF Germany, Ikora” should attract buyer interest.

There are hunting knives and bayonets, a Spanish cast iron cannon model, antique binoculars, a sail maker’s toolbox and tools, and even a World War I mechanical wheelchair manufactured by Lewis of Adelaide.

Unusual is the pair of fairground laughing clowns reportedly from Sydney’s Luna Park and decorated in Melbourne while eye catching is the Royal Doulton porcelain figure “Chiquita” from the Carnival Collection Rio HN5133, No 19 modelled by Shane Ridge, complete with original box.
