Auction paradise for Christmas

Auction goers looking for a slightly more unusual Christmas present for family or loved ones should check out Christian McCann Auctions sale from noon Sunday at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond for fine 19th century French furniture and clocks.

The furniture features Amboyna and inlaid items such as vitrines, commodes, sofa tables and salon cabinets, Boulle and ormolu mounted marquetry pieces.

English furniture includes George III (including a settee) and Regency mahogany

The mantel clocks and clock sets are part of an outstanding collection, while there also is an important long case clock by Sormani. Other features include Boulle bracket clocks and bronze and ormolu mounted salon clocks.

The auction contains exceptional quality 19th century French bronze figures and figure groups signed by important sculptors and Sevres, Meissen, Royal Worcester and Dresden porcelain – along with ormolu mounted exhibition vases.

There are original Australian and European oil paintings featuring artists such as Arthur Boyd, Hugh Sawrey, Pro Hart, J.H. Scheltema and John Perceval and a rare 19th century upright symphonium music box, Japanese Meiji period ivory and Satsuma, and Chinese antique furniture, porcelain, jade and bronzes.
