Antique scent bottles auction reminiscent of Chinese history

A collection of antique Chinese scent bottles from Toorak-based collector the Honourable Joanna Stone is a major highlight of Christian McCann Auctions forthcoming sale from noon Sunday October 12 at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.

Built up over many years, the collection features bottles of all shapes and sizes and will be a great find for any serious collector looking to add to his or her collection.

The auction features a major Sydney collection and includes rare 18th century Dutch marquetry furniture and an 18th century Dutch inlaid long case clock.

A rare of pair of 18th century Italian marble urns is bound to intrigue auction goers, along with an 18th century Irish mule chest.

Another auction attraction is the original doors from the Colonial Bank in Collins Street, Melbourne.

Collectors will be delighted at the collection of English Royal Worcester including a George Owen potpourri and pieces signed by Harry Davis, John Stinton and Charles Baldwyn.

They also will not be able to go past the “finest collection of Meissen and Dresden figures and figure groups that Australia has seen for many years” – according to auctioneer Christian McCann.

A pair of Chinese cinnabar lacquer horses with semi-precious stone inlay is another attraction for buyers along with antique carved Chinese furniture, porcelain, jade, teapots and a palatial size lacquered screen also with semi-precious stone inlay.

A French furniture highlight is the museum quality vitrine signed by Millet and Francois Linke signed bedroom suite.

The French furniture includes a rare pair of commodes, mirrors, antique gilt wood furniture, a kingwood bureau-plat and 19th century Boulle salon cabinets, centre and card tables and a pair pedestals.

The auction also features exhibition quality bronzes including  a life-size bronze of a yound maiden on an outdoor seat.
