High clearance rate for Amanda Addams Auctions

Following a busy two days viewing and a full house of registered bidders, Amanda Addams Auctions November 4 sale was notable for its high clearance rate of 80 per cent (both auction and after sales) and several jewellery items that changed hands at healthy prices.

An 18-carat gold and tanzanite ring led the charge selling for $3798 including buyers premium, while an 18-carat white gold emerald and diamond ring brought $3324.

Brett Whiteley painting achieves auction record

Brett Whiteley’s My Armchair 1976 was knocked down to well-known Melbourne buyer John Playfoot on October 31 at Menzies auction for a new artist record of $3,927,272 (including buyer’s premium).

The result surpasses Whiteley’s previous auction record of $3.48 million (including buyer’s premium) for The Olgas for Ernest Giles sold by Menzies in 2007.

Shear excitement as historic clippers go under hammer for healthy price

The National Museum of Australia has bought the historic Jackie Howe Mechanical Shears at Sotheby’s Australia’s October Fine Asian, Australian & European Arts & Design sale after a frenzied bidding war saw the price charge to $46,360 including buyers premium.

Flying start for Philips Auctions October sale

Philips Auctions October fine and decorative arts sale got off to a flying start with every early lot selling – many well above the catalogue estimates.

Mossgreen achieves auction record for historical volumes

Historically important rare books were the highlight of Mossgreen’s first auction in new salerooms in Armadale this last week. 

Comprising 22 volumes of engraved plates, maps, charts and scientific discoveries made on French expeditions of the Pacific from 1826-1829, “Voyage de la corvette l’Astrolabe” by Dumont D’Urville was conservatively estimated at $25,000-35,000 – with the expectation that they would probably fetch a higher price on the day.

Amanda Addams Auctions October sale top nine results

Amanda Addams Auctions top nine results at the October 7 sale were encouraging with a William Ricketts sculpture (lot 198) bringing $5000, and a Diamond and Sapphire Pendant (lot 124) $3300.

An Argy Rousseau bowl (lot 119) prompted plenty of bidding and eventually sold for $2250, while an emerald and diamond ring (lot 130) was knocked down for $1700.
