Qantas centenary celebrated with an auction aviation letter

There are no doubt plenty of ways Australia’s national airline Qantas could celebrate the centenary of its establishment as a commercial enterprise this year.

For Melbourne-based Leski Auctions, its forthcoming Stamp, Coin & Postal History 738-lot auction pays tribute to the anniversary with a rare example (lot 278) of the mail Qantas carried in 1922 on its first airmail delivery flights.

Australian journalist, businessman and Packer confidant auctions his collection

Trevor Kennedy, former journalist and right-hand man to Australian media tycoon the late Kerry Packer, is auctioning much of his colonial furniture, silver and other collectables collection through Gibson’s Auctions over two days from 12pm Sunday June 20 (live auction) and from 10am Monday June 21 (an online sale) at 885-889 High Street, Armadale.

The auction has been delayed by two weeks due to Victoria’s current COVID-19 lockdown – the fourth in 15 months – which has now been extended by another seven days in Melbourne until 11.59pm Thursday June 10.

Australian sporting memorabilia in sharp auction focus

As a leg spin bowler and lower order batsman, the late Terry Jenner played nine Tests for Australia and one One Day International match between 1970 and 1975.

Despite reasonable performances with both bat and ball (his best figures were 5/90 and 74 runs in different Tests), he was never a regular member of the Australian team.

However, in latter years Jenner was a leg-spin coach to many international players and a great influence on Australian leg-spin legend and record holder Shane Warne.
